Troubleshooting Spreadsheet Forms

Creating Spreadsheet Forms

Open Builder button is disabled

Possible causes:

  • Form Name is missing
  • Form Prefix is missing
  • Required form metadata has not been saved

Solutions:

  1. Check the launchpad message
  2. Fill in Form Name
  3. Fill in Form Prefix
  4. Save the form details if needed
  5. Try Open Builder again

Named cell is not saved

Possible causes:

  • No cell is selected
  • Field name is missing
  • Label is missing
  • Field type is missing or unsupported
  • Dropdown field has no options
  • Field name is already used on another sheet

Solutions:

  1. Select the correct cell
  2. Enter a unique field name
  3. Enter a clear label
  4. Choose Text, Number, Date, or Dropdown
  5. Add dropdown options if the field type is Dropdown
  6. Click Apply

Solutions:

  1. Open the builder
  2. Select the dropdown cell
  3. Confirm the field type is Dropdown
  4. Add options in the Dropdown options area, one option per line
  5. Click Apply
  6. Test the filler view

Bindings shifted after layout changes

This can happen when rows or columns are inserted or deleted after cells have already been bound.

Solutions:

  1. Use Jump to field to review each named cell
  2. Confirm each field still points to the correct cell
  3. Reapply bindings where needed
  4. Save the form
  5. Test the form before publishing

Filling Out Forms

Date picker does not open

Solutions:

  1. Make sure the cell is bound as a Date field
  2. Double-click the date cell
  3. Or select the date cell and type a character key
  4. Refresh the page and try again
  5. Contact your administrator if the issue persists

Required field error appears during submit

The message includes the cell address and label.

Solutions:

  1. Read the validation message
  2. Find the cell shown in the message
  3. Fill in the required value
  4. Submit again
note

Required validation is skipped only when saving as draft. Final submission still requires all required cells.

Number field clears or fails validation

Possible causes:

  • Value contains unsupported text
  • Regular Number field contains currency symbols
  • Regular Number field contains formatting characters
  • Value is not numeric after validation

Solutions:

  1. Remove extra text
  2. Remove currency symbols unless the cell uses Currency formatting
  3. Use plain values such as 100, -50, or 1234.50
  4. Submit again

Solutions:

  1. Reopen the dropdown cell
  2. Choose one of the listed options
  3. Do not type a value outside the configured option list
  4. Submit again

Formula does not work like Excel

Spreadsheet Forms are not Microsoft Excel.

Solutions:

  1. Simplify the formula
  2. Avoid Excel-only functions
  3. Test the formula in the OSPROV builder and filler
  4. If the value is meant to be submitted as a field, use a normal Text, Number, Date, or Dropdown binding instead

Viewing and Exporting

XLSX export looks different from the browser

OSPROV exports supported spreadsheet styles and formats, but not every browser spreadsheet detail has an Excel equivalent.

Solutions:

  1. Check whether the form uses unsupported Excel features
  2. Avoid custom formats, rich text, images, macros, and advanced styling
  3. Keep layouts simple where possible
  4. Test XLSX export before publishing complex forms

Protected cells are masked

This is expected when the current user is not allowed to view protected field data.

What happens:

  • The protected cell is masked in the viewer
  • The protected cell is masked in XLSX export
  • Action flows preserve the original protected value

Contact your administrator if you believe you should have access to the protected value.

Mobile app says Spreadsheet Forms are not supported

Spreadsheet Forms are currently supported in the desktop web application only.

Solution:

Use OSPROV in a desktop browser to create, fill, review, or export Spreadsheet Forms.
